- Abstract
The article explores ways in which people learn through an examination of a scenario located in a British National Health Service (NHS) hospital setting. The types of participants who choose to attend library orientation sessions, particularly their characteristics, qualifications, and motivations for participating in training, are discussed. Expectations of adult learners including the need to work in order to gain skills, the relation of skills to vocation, and treatment as adults are presented. Behaviourist, cognitive, and humanist approaches to learning theory are also discussed.
