- Abstract
Objective. To inquire about the referral of significant adults in the development process of Colombian young male and female adults who experienced feelings of absence from their parents. Methodology. Case study through semi-structured interviews from predefined categories from the theoretical framework. Results. Although negative feelings and experiences of loss or abandonment appear in the reports of the participants, the existence of significant adults other than parents who help them move forward can be evidenced. These young people had other people who made them feel recognized and heard and this allowed them to recognize themselves with a place in the world by having people they could trust, significant figures who accompanied them and contributed to the construction of their life project. Conclusions. Positive interactions with these alternate referents, such as extended family, neighbors and friends, as well as their support, affection, and recognition contributed to building a positive place in the world and developing trust and affection for other people.
