- Abstract
With India opening up and growing rapidly, there has been a dramatic rise in demand for management education. The supply of institutes and seats has gone up sharply too, but not quite adequately in terms of both quality as well as quantity. This has also brought in heightened social curiosity and media interest In this churning change, where a number of different models and programmes are being conceived and practiced, a large number of issues have begun to be debated These issues range from the curriculum, pedagogy, faculty and student profiles, to deeper questions of funding and control, accountability and social purpose. This paper reviews a number of these issues, especially from the perspective of reputed management schools such as the IIMs. The purpose is to stimulate further debate so that people involved in this sector become more aware of the complexity of stake holder expectations.
