- Abstract
Using Uncaria tomentosa vitroplants clone multiplied, plantations were established in four conditions of different habitats, which differed mainly in their soil characteristics as well as their altitude and rainfall levels. The differences found in main stem average growths, branch lengths and diameters, provide first approaches of soil and climate requirements for the development of this species in cultivated conditions The average growth rate observed only reaches 16 % in the IIAP locality, which are unsuitable conditions for Uncaria tomentosa in this locality; whereas average growth levels in two of the four localities (Nuevo Ucayali and Tres de Octubre) related to main stem growth (1.68 and 1.18 m.), diameter (2.04 and 2.56) and branch length (1.90 and 1.95 m.) respectively, demonstrate that these habitats are the best suited for the development of the species under cultivating conditions. These localities have soils with favourable nutritional indicators (51.59 in Nuevo Ucayali and 20.11 in Tres de Octubre). The rainfall and altitude l levels did not show a direct relation to growth.
