- Abstract
This article is a response to a previous study that investigated the association between adherence to World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) lifestyle recommendations and the incidence of various types of cancer, including prostate cancer. The authors agree with the suggestion that the observed association between greater adherence to recommendations and an increased risk of prostate cancer may be due to detection bias, as individuals with a healthier lifestyle may be more likely to undergo prostate-specific antigen (PSA) testing. However, adjusting for PSA testing did not significantly impact the observed hazard ratios, suggesting that other factors are at play. The authors also acknowledge the need for future studies to differentiate between clinical subtypes of prostate cancer and note that adherence to lifestyle recommendations may be associated with a lower risk of aggressive prostate cancer and prostate cancer mortality. The data used in this study was obtained from the UK Biobank resource.
