- Abstract
The aim of this paper is to check whether the physical sports school practices, which are conducted in schools, act as an instrument of intercultural and promoting social integration of young immigrants. To do this, it is taken as a reference Responsibility Model developed by Hellinson (2003), which establishes four principles: relationship, know their strengths, share responsibility and encourage reflection, basic elements that must be present in a physical-sports program that not only improve physical or motor aspects but also seeks personal and social development. The information is obtained from conducting semi-structured interviews seventeen teachers who teach in the discipline of Physical Education in centers located in places with a rate of immigration than or equal to 15% in Almeria (Spain). The data analysis is done with the software Nudist Vivo. The results show that teachers hardly develops the different levels that the model recommended, especially on issues such as personal autonomy and student leadership. To this must be added the lack of involvement of the teachers in intercultural training and strategies to achieve it. Thus, although physical activity and sport can be privileged for the integration, it may not be given if programs are not compiled with objectives, content and strategies are properly designed for this purpose.
