- Abstract
The author reflects on the importance of elementary school children feeling accepted and nurtured at school. She gives examples of children who have had traumatic experiences at school, including a little boy who was teased by his teachers for having a lisp, a little girl who was embarrassed by the fact that her father didn't live in her family home any more, and an Indian student who brought food to a multicultural food festival only to have the food thrown out by a teacher.
