- Abstract
The article presents a Foucaultian analysis on the experiences of death-row inmates under a supermax penal system in the western U.S. Philosopher Michel Foucault mentions the exercise of the authority's power during the practice of public execution and torture of prisoners as a form of punishment aiming for revenge on the side of the sovereign against the condemned. It notes that the facility of death-row prisoners differs from ordinary prisoners, in which the facility minimizes human contact and provides secure control.
