- Abstract
A literary criticism is presented on the 1709 English novel "The New Atlantis," by Delarivier Manley. Particular focus is given to the novel's depiction of the relationship between mass media information and empirical observation during the English Enlightenment, including in regard to the mass media's role in redefining knowledge. The portrayal of the fictional goddess Astrea in the novel is discussed.
