- Abstract
Cerium (IV) phosphate (CP), material of the class of tetravalent metal acid salts has been used as cation exchanger. The sorption/ion exchange behavior of CP toward heavy metal ions (Co2+, Ni2+, Cu2+, Zn2+, Cd2+, Hg2+, and Pb2+) has been studied using Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption isotherms. The distribution coefficient (Kd) (at optimum conditions) and breakthrough capacity for these metal ions have been determined. Elution behavior of these metal ions has been studied using acids and electrolytes. Based on the separation factorαa few binary and ternary metal ion separations have been performed.
