- Abstract
The article reports on the challenges librarians face when informing coworkers of the role the library can play in helping teachers balance their testing needs while encouraging students to read. The report "A Nation at Risk," from the National Commission on Excellence in Education in 1983 is explored. The U.S. National Reading Panel's influence on classroom assessment is considered. The U.S. government's policies towards education with standardized testing of the No Child Left Behind act, teacher accountability and assessment of students' progress are discussed. Suggestions are offered for teacher-librarians to create a successful library program.
