- Title
Great Britain to be declared free from bluetongue.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the declaration of Great Britain that it is free from serotype 8 of bluetongue virus after demonstrating to the European Commission the absence of disease cases in the past two years. Announcement of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) indicated the lifting of restrictions on exporting cattle and sheep as to bluetongue-free status. It also notes support of British Veterinary Association (BVA) on efforts of Defra in changing European rules about preventing the use of vaccination in a bluetongue-free zone.
