- Abstract
Bukele to the presidency of El Salvador in 2019, a realignment of this Central American country's foreign policy has been taking place. El Salvador has displayed a rapprochement with China, while its traditionally close relations with the United States have deteriorated since 2021, following the arrival of Joe Biden to the U.S. presidency. Based on the analysis of the realignment of El Salvador's foreign policy under Bukele, this article explores the current dynamics of the alignment of Latin American governments and political actors vis-à-vis China and the United States in a context of strategic rivalry between the two powers.
