- Authors
Jossens, Marilyn O. R.; Ganley, Barbara J.
- Abstract
The article discusses several pedagogical issues in the development of a graduate nursing program in Integrated Health Practices. It also presents an account of early experiences in the program and states the importance of a graduate program in the specialty. The nursing department of Dominican University of California, located in Marin County, is guided by the belief that nursing is a dynamic, interpersonal process based on the premise of individual worth and human dignity. Since the beginning, the development of the master's degree in nursing program was approached as a faculty process. The main aim of the program was the development of nursing leaders with advanced knowledge of the diversity of approaches and philosophies concerning health, health practices and healing. A professionally recognized, quality program in an entirely new field of nursing expertise has been developed by the faculty. It gave a new clinical opportunity to the students. Throughout the program, great attention had been paid to issues of culturally based practices.
