- Abstract
Discusses research which examined how a mechanical strain of embryonic stem (ES) cells initiates the cardiovascular differentiation program. Analysis of the role of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide oxidase and reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the activation of mitogen-activated protein kinase pathways as well as cardiac/vascular-specific genes involved in the commitment of the cardiovascular cell lineage; Effects of mechanical strain on cardiovascular differentiation of ES cells; Investigation of whether ROS will generate mechanical strain in ES cell-derived embryoid bodies.
