- Abstract
The article answers question related to billing for precepting coverage for resident physicians. To assess whether reciprocal-billing or a locum-tenens arrangement might work for family medicine residency program, one should consider several factors. Under a reciprocal-billing arrangement, some requirements have to be met with. If one chooses this reciprocal-billing arrangement, either the person or the substitute physician may bill. To bill for the precepting coverage as a locum-tenens arrangement, the requirements are different. When billing for the locum-tenens service, one should add modifier-Q6 to the procedure code.
