- Abstract
Intrauterine growth restriction represents a public health problem in Colombia, due to the high rates of morbidity and mortality generated. It is considered a multifactorial entity although most of the cases there is not apparent cause. The presence of abnormal clotting factors and natural anticoagulants found in patients with congenital and acquired thrombophilia are considered important physiopathologic factors in the development of intrauterine growth restriction, even those so-called idiopathic cases. These alterations of coagulation enhance the prothrombotic effect of pregnancy and induce placental changes associated to hypoxia fetal such as increase of fibrin deposits, extensive infarction, occlusive thrombus in corial vessels and decidual arteriopathy
