- Abstract
This document is an introduction to a special issue of the International Journal of Fracture focused on the failure mechanisms of advanced materials and structures. The advancements in materials engineering and manufacturing technology have led to the development of innovative materials with superior mechanical and physical properties. The special issue includes 13 papers covering various topics such as fatigue crack nucleation in hydrogels, fatigue and fracture of high-strength alloys, transient heat conduction in a cracked medium, and impact behavior of advanced ceramics. The authors express their appreciation to the contributors and hope that this compilation will deepen the understanding of current research in fracture mechanics and inspire new ideas in this field.
