- Abstract
Fever and inflammation of unknown origin are a common problem in rheumatology. The challenge lies in distinguishing between inflammatory rheumatic diseases and infections. Medications such as sulfasalazine, allopurinol, and azathioprine can also cause fever. Approximately 20% of cases of fever of unknown origin are attributed to a rheumatological cause. Autoinflammatory diseases such as adult-onset Still's disease and macrophage activation syndrome are often associated with fever. Fever also occurs in large vessel vasculitis and systemic lupus erythematosus. Rare diseases such as Chikungunya fever and Poncet's arthritis in tuberculosis should also be considered. Migration can lead to an increase in such diseases. The diagnosis includes a detailed medical history, imaging procedures, and laboratory tests. PET-CT is recommended when other diagnostic measures do not provide clarification.
