- Abstract
Billets made of bronze Br010S2N3 are usually produced using a permanent mold casting technique with a low product yield. Properties of the bars 25 mm in diameter obtained using an upcasting method with different casting rates (from 120 to 280 mm/min) are investigated in the present work. It is shown that with increase in casting rate the amount of γ-Cu3Sn intermetallic phase in the bronze microstructure increases slightly that leads to an increase in wear resistance. Tensile mechanical properties, hardness, and thermal conductivity of Br010S2N3 bronze are independent of casting rate. However, a fast casting rate (280 mm/min) leads to an increase in shrinkage porosity, so a casting rate of 220–250 mm/min is recommended in order to produce high-quality Br010S2N3 bronze rods.
