- Abstract
The article offers a history of the faculty at the Department of Applied Chemistry and Ecology at St. Petersburg State University of Technology and Design in Russia. The college was founded as the St. Petersburg Practical Technological Institute in the year 1828 as ordered by Emperor Nikolai I for textile production. Specific textile departments were operating by the year 1831, which included dyeing, coloring, weaving, bleaching, and a chemical laboratory. The chemists who headed the chemical technology of fibrous substances department in 1834 and their contributions to the department are noted. Highlights of the department which included curriculum, faculty, and student expansion, and accreditation as the St. Petersburg State University of Technology and Design in 1992 are discussed.
