- Abstract
This article focuses on the works of Thomas Chatterton. His two examples of poems is written in two different languages, one is a more-or-less standard mid-eighteenth-century poetic diction in iambic couplets, and the other is a version of late Middle English in rime royal. Both poems were derived from preexisting contexts in Chatterton's work, which includes "The Death of Nicou" which is a third of his "African Eclogues," while "An Excelente Balade" marks a return to the Rowley persona the artist had abandoned.
