- Abstract
El presente estudio parte de la necesidad de conocer si las personas con discapacidad intelectual leve expresan y se enfrentan al estrés de la misma manera que lo hacen las personas con funcionamiento típico, ya que en la actualidad existe poca investigación sobre el tema. El objetivo fue analizar las relaciones entre el tipo de respuesta al estrés y el tipo de estrategia de afrontamiento. La muestra estuvo constituida por 131 participantes, el 41.22% con discapacidad intelectual leve y el 58.78% con funcionamiento típico, entre los 20 y 70 años (M = 35.17, DT = 13.11). Se utilizó un cuestionario elaborado para llevar a cabo el presente estudio que recogía información sobre el tipo de respuestas (cognitivas, fisiológicas y/o motoras) ante el estrés y la adaptación española del Inventario de Estrategias de Afrontamiento (CSI). Una vez realizados los análisis descriptivos se comprobó la relación entre las respuestas y las estrategias de afrontamiento a través del coeficiente de correlación de Pearson. Las personas con discapacidad intelectual leve seleccionaron más cantidad y variedad de respuestas para expresar ansiedad que las personas con funcionamiento típico. En ambos grupos, las respuestas cognitivas fueron la opción más frecuente para manifestar ansiedad y no se encontraron relaciones significativas entre el tipo de respuesta y las estrategias de afrontamiento al estrés. Las personas con discapacidad intelectual recurren al mismo tipo de respuesta ante el estrés, pero con más variedad que las personas con funcionamiento típico. Y el tipo de respuesta en ambos grupos no es determinante en la estrategia de afrontamiento que se utiliza ante un evento estrés.
