- Abstract
The main subject of this study are the fantasy elements in Michael Ende's novel "Momo". Momo, having been translated into many languages, was analysed and its fantasy elements were assessed on the basis of poetics. Fantasy concept may not be one which has been involved in the field at early times. Although the word "early" is relatively subjective, it is also difficult to frame the boundaries of a field, not yet clearly determined. There is not a common agreement on the concept fantasy literature but it is widely accepted to be based on the criteria proposed by Todorov. Therefore, the main bases of this study are Todorov's fantasy element principles. Thus, they make up the stem of our study. Todorov's principles cover readers scepticism in the reality of a character; a character's scepticism of reality; the poetry and parable of the text. All tose elements are covered in Michael Ende's novel. The study starts with poetcal aspects of Michael Ende, continues with brief summary of the literal work and proceeds with attempt to explain the concept of fantastic literacy with various opinions and to study fantasy elements in Michael Ende's work named "Momo".
