A RE-EVALUATION OF X-RAY FLUORESCENCE DATA FROM IDAHO AND SOUTHEASTERN OREGON.
- Authors

- Abstract
The paper reevaluates the x-ray fluorescence (XRF) data for Archaic Period obsidian (volcanic glass) artifacts taken from archaeological sites in Idaho and southeastern Oregon, identifying ten main source locations for the majority of the obsidian. Topics discussed include the geographic configuration of the region, the ecological setting of the excavation sites, the site functions, and the time periods of the samples. Conclusions about the limitations of XRF analysis for the study of resource acquisition behaviors are then presented.
