ENRICO CHIAVACCI E IL DIRITTO CANONICO.

- Abstract
The canonical codification of 1917 had provoked a certain anti-juridical attitude that in the period following Vatican Council II became in certain areas rather pronounced and polemic with extreme viewpoints that hoped for the surpassing of Canon Law. Instead, Fr. Chiavacci, in a writing from 1970, held as essential the juridical dimension of the Church in the light of the doctrine of Lumen Gentium, and proposed a reform of the ecclesiastic legislation in line with what had been decided by John XXIII and Paul Vl, keeping in mind the indications of Vatican II. In 2007, as well, after the promulgation of the 1983 Codex, Chiavacci reaffirmed the role of the Canon Law and its co-naturality with the Church.
