- Title
Yucca Mountain's future examined.
- Abstract
The article reports on the examination made by the House Energy and Commerce Committee's Energy and Air Quality Subcommittee to the 8,600 page application for licensing of the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste repository filed at the Department of Energy in Nevada in June 2008. It recalls that the U.S. Congress designated the Yucca Mountain site as the permanent nuclear and radioactive waste repository which has been filled with bureaucratic delays, rising costs and opposition from Congress and the public. After deliberating its licensing application, the construction of the Yucca Mountain project will begin in 2013 and expected to finish early 2020.
