- Abstract
Objective: Ventral hernias smaller than 3 cm are commonly repaired via minor surgical interventions. Primary repair and/ or repair with mesh are the most commonly used techniques, but there is no consensus in the literature about the most appropriate repair method. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the early results of patients who underwent primary transcutaneous laparoscopic ventral hernia repair for a ventral hernia smaller than 3 cm. Materials and Methods: Twenty-six patients with ventral hernias smaller than 3 cm, who underwent primary transcutaneous laparoscopic ventral hernia repair without mesh between December 2012 and January 2017, were retrospectively evaluated. Results: Mean age of patients was 46.2±14.2 years, and female-to-male ratio was 18:8. Mean duration of surgery was 38±9.6 min, and mean follow-up period was 26.1±11.9 months. No surgical site infection and recurrence were observed in any of the patients. Conclusion: Laparoscopic surgery is safe and is increasingly being used for hernia repair. Primary transcutaneous laparoscopic ventral hernia repair can be performed in selected cases.
