- Abstract
The article discusses research on the ability of essential oil from the leaves of Zanthoxylum articulatum Engler to modify antibacterial and antibiotic activity. Such activity was investigated using minimal inhibitory dose method and gaseous contract. The presence of essential oil of Croton zehntneri was found to have enhanced the antibiotic activity of the drug gentamicin. The researchers conclude that the volatile compounds of essential oil of Z. articulatum could possibly inhibit the growth of bacterial pathogens of respiratory infections.
