- Title
BEHAVIOURAL MONITORING TECHNOLOGY IN DAIRY HERD FERTILITY.
- Authors
Sheridan, Cara
- Abstract
This article discusses the potential benefits of behavioral monitoring technology in improving dairy herd fertility. The technology, often referred to as "collars on cows," goes beyond heat detection and can provide valuable information for improving fertility key performance indicators (KPIs) and the economic breeding index (EBI). The article emphasizes the importance of fertility in seasonal systems and highlights the costs associated with reproductive inefficiency. It also discusses the role of monitoring technology in pre-breeding preparation, heat detection, timing of artificial insemination, and the use of sexed semen. The article concludes by emphasizing the value of data collected through monitoring technology for improving submission rates, conception rates, and pregnancy rates, ultimately leading to improved herd fertility and economic gain.
