- Title
Study suggests non-grazing horses need vitamin D.
- Abstract
A study published in the Veterinary Ireland Journal suggests that non-grazing horses may need vitamin D supplementation. The study compared vitamin D levels in Thoroughbred racehorses in Hong Kong and the UK and found that the group without access to grazing had lower vitamin D levels overall. The researchers recommend dietary supplementation for horses that are not grazing, as they are unable to obtain vitamin D from grass. The study also highlights the need for further research to determine the optimal dose and form of supplementation for horses.
