An essay is presented in which the author argues that historiographical debates about Christian history or church history are more complicated than some historians claim. Topics include the views of historians Mark Noll and George Marsden, the relation between a historian's religious life and historiographical approach, and the essay "After Monographs: A Critique of Christian Scholarship as Professional Practice" by Christopher Shannon in the periodical "Confessing History."
