The article discusses possible negative social effects of hate crime legislation. Topics include unintended consequences of hate crime legislation through violations of U.S. constitutional rights, the notion that hate crime legislation is not cost-effective, and public relations efforts related to diversity. Aspects of hate crime legislation including mass media, politics, and public opinion on hate crime laws are addressed.
