- Abstract
The article analyzes the problematic aspects and issues surrounding the leadership of the First Medieval Bulgarian State by four Komitopuli brothers. Topics include the military operations against Byzantium initiated by the brothers in 976 to win back the territories lost to Byzantine Emperor Tzimiskes, issues on the origin of Komitopuli family and the political and administrative structures imposed by them, and the impact on their standing of the appearance of western Bulgarian lands of Roman.
