- Abstract
Fridericia is a genus of lianas with around 60 species distributed from Mexico through northern Argentina and southern Brazil. The genus is recognized by a combination of vegetative and floral characters. Here, we describe a new species from Brazilian Amazonia, Fridericia caudata which is found only in Central Brazil, in the southern portion of the Amazonian rainforest. This new species is easily recognized by its peculiar flowers with flattened tubes and caudate corolla lobes. Here, we provide a detailed description, diagnosis, illustrations, and comments on the habitat, conservation status, and related species.
