- Abstract
An essay is presented which explores the influence of the theopoetics of philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson on poet Walt Whitman and Transcendentalist author Moncure Daniel Conway. The author reflects on the radicalism of Whitman and the religious aspects of the book "Leaves of Grass" which explore the themes of body and soul. Other topics include the task of self-creation, abolitionism, and the essay "Circles."
