- Title
Poetry and Prayer.
- Authors
Feld, Edward
- Abstract
The article discusses the relationship between poetry and Jewish liturgical prayer. According to the author, both of these forms present a journey which the reader or worshiper must undertake and which changes him or her. It is suggested that poetry and prayer utilize a different kind of thinking and emotion than the rational techniques used to read and analyze prose, and that they have the ability to connect readers and worshipers to other human beings or to forces larger than themselves. Details on the use of metaphor and voice in prayer and poetry are also presented.
