- Abstract
The article discusses the results of a survey that assesses the iodine level in the U.S. The survey indicates that iodine status of pregnant women may be insufficient, however, the ability to monitor the iodine status of pregnant woman is limited because of the sampling scheme for testing urine specimens for urinary iodine concentration (UIC). It highlights the critical role iodine nutrition in fetal development.
