- Abstract
In the new media age, journalism within the production and sharing in the digital platforms forces the traditional news content and practices to change. Instead of thinking the everlasting question of whether does the time spent on newsproduction affect the quality of the news, in a period where speed is the most important thing, 7/24 reporting dominates the entire media atmosphere, the real question should be how meaningful it can be to allow more time for the news, research and getting different opinions. Discussing this question with the concept of "slow journalism" is the main focus of this paper. Within this context where and how the concept of "slow journalism" can be positioned and its applicability will be discussed in a wide range of platform where journalism with using artificial intelligence for news writing to data journalism, from content providers on social media to citizen journalism are debated. Susan Greenberg's argumentation of 'slowness', claiming that the time spent in news production results in more qualified, more researched and ethical works is controversial, because in today's media environment events are spread out so fast, covered, without any detail and very few references. Also there are other questions like, whether that slow journalism will be an alternative to fast journalism in Internet and whether literary long news narration will be read or not in a social media where short and quick narration is the essence. For this reason, firstly the conceptual and ideological background of the idea of 'slowness' will be examined within the context of journalism and then interviews will be held with professional journalists working in traditional media platforms/industry and on the Internet to discuss its applicability. The main purpose of this study is to discuss the time spent in newsmaking in Turkey, as a country where almost in every minute unconfirmed information spread over the public through different media channels.
