- Abstract
There is a prejudice by which reaction and modern issues are considered incompatible. A view considering contemporary European history, however, is against such an affirmation. The counterrevolutionary movements are a good example, because they are not static. On the contrary, it exists, as web as all the groups and political cultures, in movement. The author considers this issue regarding the Spanish Carlism, which is an exceptional case in comparison to the other counterrevolutionary movements of the 19th century due its long existence. The article analyses above all the evolution of Carlism with regards to the political violence. Between the end of the second Carlist war, in 1986, and the ending of the Spanish civil war in 1939, and possibility of adaptation and modernising process is clearly shown in the reactionary movement in Spain.
