Putting a Price on Nature: The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity.
- Authors
Sukhdev, Pavan
- Abstract
The article looks at the significant contributions of natural resources to long-term economic performance. It notes that natural resources should be considered as economic assets, citing that ending nature's economic invisibility may as well aid poor people and prevent ecosystem destruction. It suggests the reduction or elimination of subsidies to potentially harmful activities. International efforts giving value to nature are explored, particularly the United Nations Environment Programme.
