- Abstract
Mycetoma is a chronic infection of skin and subcutaneous cell tissue characterized by enhanced volume and sinnuses, which drain serum-purulent material caused by Nocardia sp. (actinomycetoma) as well as fungi (eumycetoma). Foot is affected in 80% and abdominal mycetoma is an atypical form of presentation. In abdominal mycetoma exists risk of visceral affection. Patients with abdominal mycetoma and sepsis could present general attack, anemia, weight loss, which are mainly due to bacterial infection and sepsis. In those cases it would be useful a double therapeutic scheme with amikacine and imipenem. This patient reports the case of a patient with abdominal mycetoma and therapeutic response to imipenem in combination with amikacine.
