- Abstract
The article presents an examination into the history of the Canadian Grand Trunk Pacific Railway during the early 20th century, focusing on its expropriation of land on the Fort George Native American Reserve. Details are given describing the way by which the Canadian government purchased the reserve from the resident Lheidli Tenneh community, highlighting the events as a typical case example of government-Aboriginal relations at the time. Accounts are given outlining the political pressure put on the band from 1909 to 1911, the community's resistance, and the eventual concessions which concluded the negotiations in 1912.
