- Title
The Incident at Loroy and the Controversy over Ecclesiestical Exemption, 1295-1312.
- Authors
Jordan, William Chester
- Abstract
An essay is presented on ecclesiastical exemption granted to several known religious houses and its implications to the Church as related by the incident at the Cistercian monastery of Loroy. It points out that those religious houses like Westminster Abbey and the abbey of Saint-Denis have caused widespread resentment within the ranks of non-exempt clergy. Accordingly, it discusses the incident and the involvement of archbishop Giles of Rome and abbot Jacques de Thérines.
