- Title
Endocrine Disruptors Affect Bird Songs.
- Abstract
The article provides a discussion on the effects of endocrine disrupting chemicals on birds. Research from the Cardiff University showed that birds preying on animals contaminated with harmful chemicals displayed changes in the brain. Contaminated male birds had diminished immune functions and created complex bird songs. The study also found enlarged high vocal centers in the brains of contaminated male birds. It argues that estrogen affects the masculinization of the brain and that the development of the brain is sensitive to estrogen-like chemicals. An overview of the study is provided.
