- Authors

- Abstract
The article discusses the sports documentary "The Great Ecstasy of the Woodsculptor Steiner," a stylized film by Werner Herzog in Germany. Steiner is a documentary that holds certain genres and techniques of documentary filmmaking wherein Herzog shows interest in woodsculptor/skiflyer Walter Steiner's record-breaking flights and celebrity status. In this film, Herzog himself takes the role of the narrator and his commentary is always presented either in voice-over narration or in medium shots. Moreover, his narration attempts to place Walter Steiner's activities within the structure of a traditional, chronological narrative, beginning with Steiner's pre-season training, moving through his loss and culminating in his victory.
