- Abstract
This essay is an edited excerpt from "Sex Objects: Art and the Dialectics of Desire" and focuses on Valerie Solanas, who was famous in Greenwich Village for selling her "SCUM Manifesto." The feminist's relationship with artist Andy Wahol and her attempt on his life are mentioned. The views of Wayne Koestenbaum in his biography "Andy Warhol," indicate he sees feminist meaning in Solanas' attack on Warhol. Other topics include the representation of femininity in films, sexual politics, and gay men's relations with women.
