- Authors
BOXER, DAVID
- Abstract
The article presents information about the commissioning of the memorial sculpture of Jamaican musician Bob Marley by Jamaican sculptor Christopher Gonzalez. The author describes how he was given the responsibility of choosing between Gonzalez and sculptor Osmond Watson. When Osmond Watson was interviewed he refused the commission because he felt that Gonzalez should do the sculpture. When deciding how to do the sculpture, Gonzalez was told to make changes he didn't approve. When the sculpture was completed, the commissioning group and Jamaica's Prime Minister Edward Seaga refused to accept it.
