- Abstract
This paper describes two processes related to the incorporation of Spain into the European Area of Higher Education through the voluntary participation of some degrees in an experimental test. A) The decision-making process carried out in Faculties and Schools according to the information obtained through an open interview made to 28 academic leaders. B) The implementation of new programs and methodologies by lecturers, adapted to the new European credit system. Information was obtained through a questionnaire to 424 lecturers from different fields. Statistical description and discourse analysis are complemented with the construction of ideal types aiming to utilize subjective and contextualized rationality of actors as an explicative mechanism for their position. Data analysis shows that success of reforms cannot be taken for granted as the way the process has been carried out.
