The article reports on the goal of the Cancer Genome Atlas (CGA) to examine tumor samples for mutations that promote cancer. The CGA planned to analyze genes from lung, brain and ovarian tumors. It would then develop targeted cancer treatments and catalog the genetic changes in samples which represent 100 types of cancer.
